Review: Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach

Updated: May 19, 2023

“Experience a unique getaway at a favourite amongst the best hotels in Seminyak where centuries of tradition meet the stylish contemporary lifestyle.” Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach, an IHG Hotel

Hotel Indigo Seminyak Bali was everything I imagined it would be – a gorgeous yet understated luxe property, nestled in the less bustling part of Seminyak. I do not know if it was the air on ‘the island of the Gods’ or the fact that it was my first travel post-Covid, that made this trip a tad more memorable than the ones I had before. Or perhaps, the warm hospitality rendered by the good people of Hotel Indigo made my stay extra special.

On arrival

If you’re a fan of lesser-hype boutique lodgings with 5-star hospitality, you’ll love Hotel Indigo. The eclectic “east meets west” decor of the main lobby was a sight to behold. Check-in was a breeze, made complete with a refreshing, lavender-hued welcome drink. Superstar front desk staff included.

Room overview

The fairy-tale start to the trip did not end there, thankfully. The room did not disappoint – I had a private make-up room and reading corner all to myself throughout the 4-day stay. The (self-proclaimed) reading corner was beautifully decorated with a daybed hoisted on ropes, no less! The colourful, polished room also featured carved wood furnishings, a flatscreen tv, and an espresso machine.

Walk-in dresser with vanity

My only gripe was the shower room – while it was probably sexy for honeymooners, I presume that the solo travellers or those with families would not be too enthusiastic about the lack of privacy. But fret not, you could always draw the blinds down. Problem-solved, no dramas.

Restaurants

Seminyak beach is located just minutes away from Hotel Indigo. You could soak in the picturesque view of the sea and sunrise while having a delish breakfast at SugarSand, its signature beachfront restaurant. Alternatively, Makase is the perfect choice for those who prefer international, buffet-style fanfare to start the day. I was so taken by the seemingly simplistic and wholesome Bircher Muesli (served at SugarSand) that I tried recreating it at home but failed miserably. I still haven’t figured out the secret ingredient that made it distinctive – it was a cross between the mouthwatering caramelised bananas or the overnight oats prepped to perfection.

Amenities and things to do

Whether you're an introvert or extrovert, there's a bevvy of activities to choose from at Hotel Indigo. The property had four outdoor swimming pools hence I was spoilt for choice. I could lounge by the pool all day, sipping on coconut water and mocktails. Too bad, I only brought a swimsuit. What was I thinking?

Poolside haven

Fitness enthusiasts could take solace from the gym and fitness classes available. I enrolled in a sunrise yoga class on my last day – loved it to bits! The class was kept personalised and small. If you prefer the outdoors, cycling is an option (available at the hotel) or you could rent a scooter to scour the neighbourhood and discover hidden gems.

My only regret was not booking a session at Sava Spa. Crowned as “the best spa in a 5-star resort in Indonesia” for 2019, this is one experience not to be missed. And yet I did – what a bummer!

Sava Spa

Overall, the whole experience had been nothing short of dreamy. 4.8 stars out of 5 simply because perfection does not exist.
