Spa Review: Pablo Blau

It’s been a while since I went for a facial treatment - 3 years to be exact since the inception of Covid. When I chanced upon Spa Pablo Blau via social media, my curiosity was piqued. Pablo Blau is this new salt-therapy spa that looked very chic (and expensive). Salt Therapy, also known as halotherapy involves inhaling salt particles in a controlled environment, typically in a salt room or chamber. The numerous health benefits include improving respiratory issues, reducing stress, anxiety and promoting relaxation. The popularity of salt therapy spa internationally, appears to be on the rise as more people become interested in natural and alternative therapies for improving their health and general well-being.

There was a promotion on Pablo Blau’s Signature Facial Treatment and that was basically the dealbreaker for a bargain hunter like yours truly. Located conveniently in Raffles City Shopping Centre - Pablo Blau sits in between luxe SKII Boutique Spa and stylish retailer, Urban Revivo on Level 2. The regal blue and gold reception area was undoubtedly luxurious but not intimidating – the hosts were pleasant and friendly.

I waited for about 10 mins for the treatment room to be prepared and was asked to fill-up the standard health-disclaimer form in the interim. Guests were offered bottled water and we were recommended to have our restroom breaks prior.

When the treatment room was ready, I was led through a surprisingly minimalistic, all-white entryway – a complete departure from the regal blue and gold. This sets precedent for an all-white, salt-infused therapy room.

Walking around ankle-deep in salt was not an easy feat but overall, it was an interesting and relaxing experience. I enjoyed all 45-mins of it – the products used were suited for my combination skin type and the extraction part of the facial process did not cause any flare-ups or redness. The aesthetician explained every step and products that were applied on my face.

The use of salt for therapeutic purposes for respiratory and skin condition has been documented for centuries. In the mid 19th century, Polish physician Feliks Boczkowski noticed that salt mine workers had better respiratory health than people in other professions. He attributed this to the inhalation of salt particles and began to explore the potential and health benefits of salt therapy. Today, salt therapy is offered in various forms including salt rooms, salt caves and salt lamps.

If initially I was a sceptic, this experience changed my perception of salt therapy (read: not gimmicky marketing). Would I recommend it to anyone? Absolutely yes – if you do not have any major skin concerns and in need of a luxe, calm spa pampering.
